Just wanted to know if anybody is experiencing eye pressure/pain. I do get a lot of pain in my eye balls I cannot read books for a long time or watch TV or work on a laptop for a long time.
Just wondering is it anything to do with RA.

Hi Sajid - I was originally diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome last year, then RA this year. The SS causes dry eyes that feel gritty and uncomfortable and are often red and unsightly. Any activity that would cause eye strain would aggravate this condition. SS also causes very dry mouth and several symptoms similar to RA. Could it be that you also have this?

I have had my glasses made up with a slight brown tint as the glare from the whiteboard in the classroom and regular tasks on laptop/marking etc give me eyestrain and headaches. Hope you get some answers Sajid. Nice to 'meet' you but sorry it had to be due to RA. XX Ailsa

Hi Sajiid

Welcome to the forum.

I had problems with my eyes before I was diagnosed. I remember them hurting in the evening. I use to end up watching the TV with my eyes nearly shut. I even had my eyes tested because I thought that something terrible was happening.

When I saw the consultant the first time I mentioned it to him along with my other symptoms. I thought he would be thinking to himself 'Silly woman, how can she think that her eyes have anything to do with her joints hurting' But to my surprise and relief he told me it was all connected. There is an article in the NRAS Autumn magazine about eyes with RA. Don't know if you have had one sent, or you might beable to find the article on the NRAS site.

Hi Sajid. Dry eyes are associated with RA I.m afraid. I have been struggling with this and now have eye drops from my GP which help a lot. Some of the medication we take can also affect the eyes. Hydroxychloroquine can cause eye problems - I take this so have to have annual eye tests and I am very aware of any changes in how my eyes feel.

Hi Sajid,

I'm Lorna, I'm just back from my holiday and catching up. I think I know the eye pressure pain you are experiencing, I get this from time to time too. In fact I did whilst away on holiday, thank goodness I had some of the cream/drops the doctor gave me, My doctor said it was just an eye infection and not too worry. My eyes do not get gritty but do go red and the pressure pain can be sore, It was checked thoroughly the last time I was there and they were satisfied it was nothing serious. Hope you are ok soon. Take care Lorna Smile

Hi Sajid,

If you have not had a recent eye test it would be worth going to the opticians just to check your eyes.
Hope it settles down for you soon.
